Understanding Menopause and Getting Support

Menopause is a natural stage of life, yet for many women it can feel anything but simple. Hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, weight changes, sleep disruption, and brain fog are just a few of the symptoms that can appear – sometimes all at once. While every woman’s experience is unique, one thing is certain: support, guidance, and the right treatment can make all the difference.

That’s where seeing a menopause specialist comes in. Dr. Jenny Cusack, our experienced menopause and women’s health specialist discusses how she can help you navigate this journey.

Understanding Menopause Beyond the Basics

Menopause isn’t just about the end of menstrual cycles – it’s a hormonal shift that can affect almost every part of your body and wellbeing. Unfortunately, it’s often overlooked or
misunderstood, even in general healthcare settings. Many women are told that menopause is something they “just have to put up with,” but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
As a BMS menopause specialist I have in-depth training and experience in this area. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, I focus on understanding your specific symptoms, lifestyle, and health history. This allows us to create a tailored plan that helps you feel more like yourself again.

Why Specialist Support Matters

There are over 30 recognised symptoms of menopause, and they don’t always appear in obvious ways. Fatigue, anxiety, joint pain, or palpitations can sometimes be linked back to
hormonal changes. Without the right expertise, these symptoms may be misdiagnosed or treated in isolation.

By coming to a menopause specialist, you’ll benefit from:

  • Expert knowledge of hormone replacement therapy (HRT): understanding the latest evidence, safety guidelines, and different treatment options available.
  • A holistic perspective: looking not just at hormones, but also nutrition, exercise, stress, and sleep – all of which play a crucial role in managing menopause.
  • Personalised care: no two women experience menopause in the same way, so your treatment shouldn’t be identical to anyone else’s.

Taking Back Control

One of the most empowering parts of working with a menopause specialist is gaining clarity. Instead of struggling alone or feeling dismissed, you’ll have someone in your corner who
understands exactly what you’re going through. Together, we can find solutions that fit your lifestyle and your goals – whether that’s restoring energy, improving sleep, lifting mood, or simply feeling more confident in your own skin.

Menopause can and should be a stage of life where women thrive. With the right guidance, it’s possible to reduce symptoms, protect long-term health (such as bone and heart health), and feel positive about the future.

Why Choose Me

As a menopause specialist, my passion is helping women navigate this transition with compassion, expertise, and practical solutions. I take the time to listen, explain your options
clearly, and support you every step of the way. My aim isn’t just to ease symptoms – it’s to help you live well through menopause and beyond. Alongside menopause, other things often arise and as an experienced GP, I can investigate and manage these seamlessly throughout your menopause journey to provide continuity of care.

You don’t need to face menopause alone. With the right care, this chapter of life can be one of strength, resilience, and renewal.
