Put A Spring In Your Step This Easter

Fun Ways to Get Moving with Your Children

The Easter holidays are a wonderful opportunity to slow down, spend time together as a family and, hopefully, enjoy some brighter spring weather. After the darker winter months, many of us feel ready to get outside and put a little spring back into our step. Last month during Children’s Mental Health Week, we shared some advice on supporting your child’s wellbeing over the February half term. If you missed it, you can read that blog here:
In that post we talked about the importance of rest, connection and routine. One of the best ways to support both physical and mental wellbeing for children (and adults!) is regular movement and exercise. So with Easter approaching, we thought we would share some simple and enjoyable ways to stay active as a family during the holidays.

Why Exercise Matters for Children (and Parents)

Exercise is about far more than physical fitness. Being active can help children:
  • Build strong bones and muscles
  • Improve sleep and energy levels
  • Develop confidence and social skills
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Support overall mental wellbeing
Health guidelines suggest that children aged 5–18 should aim for around 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity each day. This might sound like a lot, but it doesn’t have to be structured sport. Activities such as playing in the park, cycling, dancing or walking the dog all count. The key message is simple: movement should be fun.

A Gentle Reminder

Not every day of the holidays needs to be packed with activity. Rest and relaxation are important too. The goal isn’t perfection – it’s simply to encourage more movement, laughter and time together as a family. Even a short walk, a kickabout in the garden, or a spontaneous dance in the kitchen can help everyone feel better.
💚 From all of us at See Me GP, we hope you have a wonderful Easter half term and manage to put a little spring in your step. If you have concerns about your child’s physical or mental health, or would like to discuss lifestyle support for your family, our team is always here to help.
